Using Music: An Effective Medium of Teaching Vocabulary in ESL Classroom (DISCUSSION, PEDAGOGICAL IMPLICATION, AND RECOMMENDATION)

Hello, Good Readers :D
Meet me again here in my new post! Thank God for always giving us blessings so I could continue my post this week. I am so sorry I could not post this part earlier, I know I have had a promise to continue this last week, but I got a mid-term test last week and I needed to learn to face it. Well, actually it was kind of uneasy for me, but after all it has finished, and all I need to do now is to wait for the results. That’s it.

In this post, finally I am going to explain the last part of the journal that we have been talking in my last three posts, Journal of English Teaching entitled Using Music: An Effective Medium of Teaching Vocabulary in ESL Classroom by Takwa Sultana Jahan. Since I had explained the introduction, the methodology, and the data analysis of the journal, therefore now I would like to explain the last part of the journal, that is, the discussion, pedagogical implication and recommendation.

So, briefly in this section we would be presented about the final conclusion about this journal. In other words, we will find out soon whether using music for teaching vocabulary in ESL classroom is effective or not. Personally, I am truly curious about the final result. No need to say anything again. Let's find out!

Discussion, Pedagogical Implication, and Recommendation.

"Nothing is perfect" may seem suitable to represent this journal. As we know, every research has always some weaknesses for sure, so this research does. They are:

1. Some of the students did not take the test seriously. They answered the quoestionnares randomly, unstructured, and even they left some questions empty.
2. The study was conducted in one and half week only. So, the impact given by the study for the ESL students cannot be provided.

However, apart from those weaknesses, this study had managed to get a result that Music group could perform better than Non Music group in acquiring English vocabulary.

In addition, after doing interviews with both group, the researcher found out that the students felt more enjoy when they learn vocabulary through songs. The researcher also came to know that songs could bring confidence to the students, so they had a better attitude when they did the lesson with songs. Thus, according to this research, it can be said that using music intensively to acquire vocabulary in ESL classroom proved to be highly effective both in terms of achievement and attitude than the regular one without songs.

Of the psychological view, if used properly and carefully in ESL classroom, songs can emancipate mental and affective power in language acquisition and at the same time promote language awareness. Also, listening to music can drive the learner’s psychological barriers and anxiety away and initiate self-confidence and motivation to grasp the target language.

Of pedagogical point of view, learners’ active participation is such a very base principle to conduct an effective and successful learning. Music has unique power to attract the listeners. If chosen and conducted carefully, learning English especially vocabulary through English songs is one of the ways we can build an effective and successful learning. It is because English songs has so many materials in it and also consists of vocabularies from various field of life, so the ESL learners can be moved and motivated easily to use the vocabularies from the songs in their lives. The intrinsic merits of songs undoubtedly cultivate interest and high motivation in ESL learners and develop linguistic intelligence.

Finally, we have arrived in a conclusion of this journal that I conclude by myself. Learning English through music or English songs is such an effective strategy to acquire new vocabularies for ESL learners. It is because everyone likes music and it can make the learning process easier if we learn from something we like.

Also, I would like to add my real experience of learning vocabularies from English songs. It was awesome guys, I got a lot vocabularies in a very fun way and now I could really talk in English and understand what English speakers say, and another advantages is I could directly understand the meaning of the lyrics from the songs that I hear now so I don’t have to find their translations on the internet. I have told you guys, it is nothing but awesome!

I really recommend you to learn English through songs, or you can also use movies to learn English. It is just as fun as learning English from songs. Well, that’s all from me today. Thank you so much from keeping your eyes on my posts. I hope you find this post useful for you. See you in my next posts. Much Love.
